Meetings of the Foreign Vice-Minister Mitkus in Kyiv focus on Ukraine's EU membership
On 25 April 2025 in Kyiv, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Sigitas Mitkus, together with the Irish Minister of State for European Affairs and Defence, Thomas Byrne, who is visiting Ukraine at the invitation of Lithuania's Foreign Vice-Minister, met with Yevhen Perebyinis, Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine. The meeting discussed the pursuit of peace in Ukraine and further support for strengthening Ukraine's ability to defend itself against Russian aggression. “Lithuania will continue to support Ukraine’s territorial integrity and its freedom to choose alliances,” the Vice-Minister Mitkus said.
At the meeting with Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Olha Stefanishyna, Deputy Minister of Justice, Svitlana Tereshchenko, and Director General at the Government Office for Coordination on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Oleksandr Ilkov, strong support for Ukraine's EU membership aspirations was expressed. “I am convinced that Ukraine’s EU membership will contribute to the security and stability of Europe. Therefore, we continue to consistently support Ukraine’s aspirations to become a full-fledged member of the European Union by 2030,” said the Vice-Minister Mitkus.
The meeting with the Deputy Minister for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine, Serhii Derkach, discussed possibilities to accelerate the work of the Common Interest Group for Transport in Ukraine, in particular, to respond to Ukraine’s immediate and longer-term needs for the reconstruction of the transport sector.
The Vice-Minister also attended a memorial service in Kyiv's Sviatoshynskyi district after one of the aggressor's biggest combined attacks on residents of the capital on April 24 that killed 12 people and injured more than 80.
