MEETING WITH HEAD OF CABINET OF HERMAN VAN ROMPUY TO FOCUS ON LITHUANIA’S EU PRESIDENCY AGENDA

Didier Seeuws, Head of Cabinet of the President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy, is to pay a two-day visit to Vilnius on 18 April. Seeuws will meet with representatives of Lithuania’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union to discuss meeting times and items on the agenda of European Council, as well as the Eastern Partnership Summit which is to be held in Vilnius.

Seeuws will hold meetings with the Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius, the Minister of Energy Jaroslavas Neverovičius, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Vytautas Leškevičius, the Vice-Minister of Finance Aloyzas Vitkauskas, the Vice-Minister of Economy Marius Busilas, and advisers to the President and to the Prime Minister.

The meeting will discuss the items on the agenda of European Council this year (energy, competitiveness of industry, etc.), as well as the cooperation between Lithuania and European Council during the period of Lithuania’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2013, and priorities for the Presidency. The Head of Cabinet of the President of the European Council plans to meet with officials, with whom he will have to cooperate closely during Lithuanian Presidency term.

During the visit of Seeuws particular attention will be dedicated to the 3rd Eastern Partnership Summit, which is to be held in Vilnius on 28 and 29 November 2013. President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė and the President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy are hosts of this event.

Heads of state and government of EU member states, political leaders from the six Eastern Partnership countries, representatives of EU and international financial institutions are expected to attend Eastern Partnership Summit in November.
