MEETING OF LITHUANIAN FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER AND IAEA REPRESENTATIVES FOCUSES ON NUCLEAR ENERGY PROJECTS
On 7 February in Vienna, Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Egidijus Meilūnas and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Deputy Director General, Head of the Department of Nuclear Safety and Security Denis Flory discussed nuclear power projects in Central and Eastern Europe and progress in closing the Ignalina nuclear power plant.
At the meeting, Vice-Minister E.Meilūnas highlighted Lithuania’s concern about the compliance of the region’s nuclear energy projects with international nuclear safety standards.
The Vice-Minister discussed these issues also with the U.S. Ambassador to the IAEA Glyn Davies.
During the visit to Vienna, Vice-Minister E.Meilūnas and Johannes Kyrle, Secretary General of the Foreign Ministry of Austria, signed an agreement between the MFA’s of Lithuania and Austria regarding the representation in the issuance of Schengen visas.
As of 1 August 2009, Austrian Embassies in the Philippines, Colombia, Syria and Lebanon issue Schengen visas for the citizens of these countries travelling to Lithuania. The agreement signed on 7 February in Vienna introduces the amendments, set out in the new EU Visa Code that came into force on 5 April 2010.
On 7-8 February in Vienna, Lithuanian Vice-Minister E.Meilūnas is taking part in the OSCE’s first preparatory meeting of Economic and Environmental Forum, which focuses on sustainable energy.
