Meeting of Foreign Vice-Minister Plepytė with the Undersecretary of State of Poland focuses on strengthening NATO's eastern flank
On 20 May in Vilnius, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Audra Plepytė met with the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Robert Kupiecki. The meeting discussed preparations for the Meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs to be held in Helsingborg on 21-22 May, the importance of the transatlantic bond, and the need to strengthen deterrence and defence on NATO’s eastern flank.
In view of the recent violations of the airspace of the Baltic states and the threat posed by drones, special attention was given to the issue of enhancing air defence, as well as the need to prevent Russia's information attacks.
The Vice-Minister Plepytė noted that it is necessary to ensure a rapid and substantial implementation of the EU's defence initiatives, including the Eastern Flank Watch flagship project, while contributing to the strengthening of the Alliance's collective defence.
The participants of the meeting agreed to continue a close dialogue on security issues relevant to the Baltic Sea region.
