MEETING OF CHANCELLORS OF EU FOREIGN MINISTRIES DISCUSES EEAS REVIEW

On 24 September in Brussels, the Chancellor of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Jūratė Raguckienė attended a meeting of Secretaries General (Chancellors) of EU Foreign Ministries, which discussed the 2013 EEAS Review.

The Chancellors discussed the review of the organisation and functioning of the European External Action Service, which was presented by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton in July 2013. The Review presents a range of proposals and suggestions from the High Representative on the organisation and functioning of the EEAS, as well as a number of short-term and medium-term recommendations with regard to the organisation and the functioning of the EEAS.

“Lithuania is interested in shaping a strong, efficient and visible EU foreign policy, which would reflect and protect interests of Member States and EU citizens. The EEAS Review presents a possibility to successfully shape and implement a common and proactive EU foreign policy. Lithuania’s Presidency of the EU Council will make every effort to ensure a smooth review of the issue at the Council,” J.Raguckienė said.

The 2010 Council’s decision on the establishment of the EEAS scheduled the review of the EEAS for 2013.
