LITHUANIA’S MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OPENS ITS DOOR TO THE PUBLIC
On 22 April, an open door day - the European Open House celebration - took place at Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. On this day, the Ministry received over 130 visitors. Vilnius city residents and guests of the capital city had an opportunity to get acquainted not only with the everyday work of diplomats at the MFA, but also with the activities of the diplomatic missions of the European Union member states in Lithuania.
At the Ministry, visitors attended lectures on the history of Lithuania’s diplomacy and realities of today, the European Union and Lithuania’s membership in international organizations. They could view the exhibitions that are displayed at the Ministry and visit the office of Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Embassies of seven EU countries - the Czech Republic, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden – participated in the European Open House celebration. Foreign diplomats acquainted visitors with activities of these embassies, culture and traditions of their countries.
Annual European Open House celebration was held for the fourth time in Lithuania. 38 institutions in Vilnius and one in Klaipėda participated in the celebration. Visitors were received by the Office of the President of Lithuania, Seimas (Parliament), the Office of the Prime Minister, almost all ministries, Vilnius city municipality and other public administration institutions.
The goal of the European Open House project is to open the door of state institutions and diplomatic missions to residents and guests of Vilnius, to acquaint them with the work in relation to Europe, and with traditions and culture of the EU countries.
