LITHUANIA’S INCOMING OSCE CHAIRMANSHIP WAS DISCUSSED IN MOSCOW
On 20 December in Moscow, Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Eitvydas Bajarūnas took part in political consultations on the issues of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
In Moscow, E.Bajarūnas met with Director of the Department of Pan-European Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Vladimir Voronkov, they discussed the results of the OSCE Summit in Astana on 1-2 December and Lithuania’s preparations for the OSCE chairmanship next year.The Political Director of the Lithuanian MFA noted that cooperation with Russia would be very important when addressing the organization’s current issues.
At the meeting, the Political Director acquainted V.Voronkov with the priorities of Lithuania’s incoming OSCE chairmanship and noted that Lithuania’s chairmanship would continue the work that had been started when preparing for the Summit, especially in those areas where the OSCE participating states had achieved the greatest consensus.
The officials also discussed plans for next year and the visit of Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis, as the Chair-in-Office of the OSCE, to Moscow in 2011.
