LITHUANIA’S HONORARY CONSUL BEGAN HIS TENURE IN JAPAN
On 4 June in Japan, the office of Lithuania’s Honorary Consul was opened in Osaka. It will be headed by Honorary Consul Takeo Obayashi. Representatives from Osaka prefecture and Osaka city authorities, general consuls and honorary consuls residing in Osaka, business and media representatives took part in the ceremony.
In his welcome speech, Lithuania’s Ambassador to Japan Dainius Kamaitis stressed that relations between Lithuania and Japan had entered a phase of prosperity since Lithuania had joined the European Union.
“The visit of Japan’s Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko to Vilnius in 2007 testifies to strong relations between Lithuania and Japan. Lithuania, which recently started the second millennium of its history, is interested in active development of business relations with one of the largest industrial regions in Japan, the centre of which is Osaka,” said Ambassador D.Kamaitis.
T.Obayashi is a member of the board of directors of Obayashi Corporation, which is the fourth biggest construction company in Japan. The company was established in 1892, it develops projects in South-Eastern Asia, Australia, the U.S.A. and Europe, and is among the world’s 20 biggest construction companies.
The new Lithuania’s Honorary Consul is tasked to represent Lithuania’s interests in the city of Osaka and surrounding regions of Kinki, Chūgoku, Shikoku and Kyūshū.
