LITHUANIA’S GOVERNMENT APPROVES THE APPOINTMENT OF LITHUANIA’S AMBASSADOR TO SAN MARINO AND MALTA

On 7 April, the Government of the Republic of Lithuania approved the appointment of Lithuania’s Ambassador to the Italian Republic Petras Zapolskas as an Ambassador to San Marino and Malta, and submitted this nomination to the President.

Ambassador to San Marino and Malta will reside in Rome. Ambassador P.Zapolskas, who has represented Lithuania in the Italian Republic since 27 April 2009, will become Lithuania’s second Ambassador to San Marino and the fourth Ambassador to Malta.

Lithuania established diplomatic relations with Malta on 7 April 1994 and with San Marino on 6 March 2001.

Malta is the smallest member state of the European Union, which joined the EU together with Lithuania. San Marino is one of the world’s smallest countries and the oldest functioning Constitutional Republic. Although San Marino is not an EU member state, it belongs to the Euro and Schengen zones.
