Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister stresses the importance of voluntary sharing the immigration burden in the EU
During the EU General Affairs Council meeting on 23 June in Luxembourg, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Rolandas Kriščiūnas stressed the need to jointly address a migration crisis in the Mediterranean, taking all measures to reduce illegal migration and showing solidarity with the most-affected countries and people fleeing from war and danger.
“All EU member states must share the immigration burden. The member states have to show solidarity based on the voluntary principle,” said the Minister.
The Council exchanged views on the EU action plan on strategic communication.
“The action plan on strategic communication will strengthen the EU response to Russian propaganda, which is not confined to Eastern Partnership countries. It is, therefore, necessary to provide and implement certain measures not only in these countries, but also in the EU member states. It is also important to ensure financing for the implementation of this plan,” said Kriščiūnas.
