Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister receives the new Ambassador of Norway

On 4 September, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Dalius Čekuolis met with the new Ambassador of Norway Ole Terje Horpestad, who presented his letters of credence to the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda on the same day.

The participants of the meeting welcomed the excellent relationship between the two countries, close cooperation in the areas of defense, economy, energy security, and a strong partnership within the NATO Alliance.

The interlocutors shared their insights into the situation in Belarus (the Ambassador Ole T. Horpestad is also accredited to Belarus) and the European Union’s position on the political crisis in this neighboring country.

Čekuolis noted that for the like-minded states, such as Lithuania and Norway, it was important to join efforts in seeking ways to help the people of Belarus. The Foreign Vice-Minister and the Ambassador also discussed preparations for the upcoming visit by the Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg next week.

Up until now, Ole T. Horpestad has represented Norway in Ukraine. He replaced Karsten Klepsvik, who has served as Norway’s Ambassador to Lithuania since 2018.
