Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister participates in Ministerial Conference of International Organisation of La Francophonie

On 10-11 October, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Andrius Krivas participated in the 31st session of the Conference of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) in Yerevan, Armenia.

Participants of the event discussed political cooperation between member states of la Francophonie in the face of global challenges. This year’s session focused on conflict prevention and the aim to achieve a universal agreement on climate in Paris this December.

“A long time ago, the Francophonie became a symbol of democracy, peace, human rights, cultural and linguistic diversity. Lithuania is firmly committed to promoting these principles on the international level and our membership of the United Nations Security Council today enables us to do this particularly actively,” Vice-Minister Krivas highlighted the importance of OIF’s fundamental values.

The Lithuanian representative also underscored the need of greater participation of women in conflict prevention and resolution, and called on other representatives of the member states of OIF to pursue a universal and ambitious climate agreement.

In the margins of the conference, OIF and Lithuania together with 16 member states of the organization strengthened their partnership assuming an obligation to cooperate to improve diplomats and public servants’ French language skills and to promote multilingualism.

Lithuania has cooperated with OIF in this field since 2006. The country was granted an observer state at the OIF in 1999.
