LITHUANIA’S FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER MET WITH THE MINISTER FOR THE KOSOVO SECURITY FORCE
On 30 November, Lithuania’s Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Šarūnas Adomavičius met with Minister for the Kosovo Security Force Fehmi Mujota, who is on a visit to Lithuania.
Š.Adomavičius stressed the need to strengthen the bilateral relations between Lithuania and Kosovo, and expressed readiness of Lithuania to share the experience of integration into the European Union and NATO.
“Lithuania fully understands the challenges that Kosovo faces currently,” Vice-Minister Š.Adomavičius said.
F.Mujota thanked Lithuania for its significant input into international missions in Kosovo. According to him, the missions contribute to the security in the country and help to strengthen Kosovo’s institutions.
Lithuania’s Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs was pleased with the democratic local elections in Kosovo that were held on 15 November and encouraged Kosovo’s institutions to implement recommendations of the European Commission by proceeding with political and economic reforms in the country.
During the meeting, the participation of Kosovo in the initiatives of regional cooperation in the Western Balkans was also discussed.
On 6 May 2008, the Seimas (Parliament) of Lithuania recognized the independence of Kosovo. Lithuania established diplomatic relations with Kosovo on 1 September 2008.
