LITHUANIA’S FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER MET WITH THE ASSISTANT FOREIGN MINISTER FOR EUROPEAN AFFAIRS OF EGYPT

On 28 October, Lithuania’s Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Šarūnas Adomavičius met with Assistant Foreign Minister for European Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt Hamdi Sanad Loza and discussed possibilities to stimulate bilateral relations in the areas of politics, economy, trade and culture, as well as cooperation in international organisations.

Vice-Minister Š.Adomavičius invited the Foreign Minister of Egypt to pay a visit to Lithuania in 2010 and encouraged him to consider a possibility to open an Embassy of Egypt in Vilnius. Moreover, the Vice-Minister stressed that the Lithuanian side was ready to sign bilateral agreements on cooperation in the areas of education, science and studies, also on cooperation in the field of tourism.

Vice-Minister Š.Adomavičius invited Egypt to contribute more actively to the activities of the Community of Democracies, which is currently chaired by Lithuania. The interlocutors also discussed a possible cooperation of the countries, while Lithuania is getting prepared to hold the Chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in 2011. Egypt is an OSCE partner and belongs to the group of Mediterranean countries.

During the meeting, opinions were also exchanged on the Middle East Peace Process and the cooperation between the European Union and the Mediterranean countries, and Lithuania’s relations with neighbour countries.
