LITHUANIA’S FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER MET WITH HEAD OF THE GENERAL DELEGATION OF THE PALESTINIAN AUTHORITY IN HELSINKI

On 30 March in Vilnius, Lithuania’s Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Šarūnas Adomavičius and Head of the General Delegation of the Palestinian Authority in Helsinki Nabil Darwish Alwazir discussed the Middle East Peace Process.

The Vice-Minister highlighted the common European Union’s position on the Middle East Peace Process that aims at a two-state solution with Israel and Palestine, living side by side in peace in the future. Besides, the State of Israel and the Palestinian Authority have to return to indirect peace talks as soon as possible.

When discussing the issues of cooperation between the EU and the Palestinian Authority, Vice-Minister Š.Adomavičius affirmed that as an EU member, Lithuania was ready to continue developing bilateral relations based on common interests.

The Vice-Minister said that Lithuania was ready to contribute to the organization of free and democratic elections in the Palestinian Authority. “We wish to continue bilateral cooperation in the area of elections,” Vice-Minister Š.Adomavičius said.

In May 2009, three representatives from the Palestinian electoral commission visited Lithuania. The representatives observed the presidential elections that took place at that time in Lithuania, participated in training sessions and met with representatives from Lithuanian institutions.
