Lithuania's Foreign Vice-Minister Meilūnas in New York: "We will stop Russia only by increasing support for Ukraine and strengthening transatlantic ties"

On March 7, Lithuania's Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, Egidijus Meilunas, participated in the third North American-Lithuanian business forum dedicated to further developing bilateral economic cooperation.

When addressing representatives of business communities of the U.S.A. and Lithuania, the Foreign Vice-Minister emphasized that Russia and other autocratic states supporting it sought to destroy the international order based on rules and values to which the U.S.A., Lithuania and other democratic states belonged.

"We will stop Russia and its supporters only by increasing support for Ukraine, strengthening transatlantic ties and partnerships between democratic states. The cooperation between Lithuania and the U.S.A. in security, politics, economy and other fields, which is growing significantly yearly, is an excellent example of such a partnership", said Meilūnas.

The forum brought together more than 300 Lithuanian and U.S. entrepreneurs this year. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Consulate General of Lithuania in New York are among the forum organisers.

During his visit to the U.S.A., the Foreign Vice-Minister met with a former U.S. Congressman and long-time friend of Lithuania, John Shimkus. They discussed further opportunities for cooperation between Lithuania and the U.S.A. in security and defence and the need to strengthen support for Ukraine, which was fighting against Russia's aggression.

Support for Ukraine was also discussed in meetings with members of the Lithuanian community in the United States, as well as the issues of Lithuanian education, fostering Lithuanianness, the involvement of the diaspora in the life of Lithuania, and the preparation for the May referendum on the preservation of citizenship.
