Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister meets with the U.S. Department of State's Special Envoy for Holocaust Issues

On 17 October in Vilnius, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Mantvydas Bekešius met with the newly appointed Special Envoy for Holocaust Issues at the U.S. Department of State Thomas K. Yazdgerdi and acquainted him with Lithuania’s work to perpetuate the memory of Jews who were killed during the Holocaust in Lithuania, to preserve Jewish heritage sites, adopted amendments to the Law on Citizenship and other topical issues of the state.

The U.S. representative and Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister presented the main objectives of the U.S. Government in the fields of the Holocaust education, remembrance and property restitution, the activity of the U.S. delegation within the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).

As regards the Congress Centre project in Vilnius and the ongoing work, the positions of the Lithuanian and the U.S. administrations coincided.

The newly appointed Special Envoy for Holocaust Issues at the U.S. Department of State is visiting Lithuania on 17-18 October.
