Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister meets with the new Ambassador of Estonia

On 4 September, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Dalius Čekuolis met with the new Ambassador of Estonia to Lithuania Kai Kaarelson. The Ambassador presented her letters of credence to the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda on the same day.

In the meeting, the Foreign Vice-Minister and Estonia’s Ambassador discussed the latest developments related to the COVID19 outbreak and the position of the three Baltic states on the increasing numbers of infected people. The interlocutors also exchanged their views on cooperation of the countries within the Baltic Sea regional formats, as well as the existing regional security challenges. Diplomats from both countries shared their insights into the situation in Belarus and the EU’s position on the political crisis in this neighboring country. Dalius Čekuolis and Kai Kaarelson also discussed the intensified crackdown on Russia’s civil society. In addition, the Estonian Ambassador shared information on preparations for the high-level meeting in October.

Karelsson replaced Jan Vanaveski, who has served as the Estonian Ambassador to Lithuania since 2016.
