Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister meets with the Ambassador of Burkina Faso
On 29 November in Vilnius, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Neris Germanas met with the new Ambassador of Burkina Faso to Lithuania Simplice Honoré Guibila, who presented his letters of credence to the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė on the same day.
In the meeting, the officials discussed opportunities to expand economic cooperation and strengthen bilateral ties in the fields of culture, education, science, and tourism.
“Africa’s fast-growing economy receives increasingly more attention of Lithuanian businesses,” said the Vice-Minister Germanas, who also stressed that more information on business opportunities in Burkina Faso would encourage all interested companies to take the first step towards entering the country’s market. The Vice-Minister also noted that Lithuania sought to strengthen cooperation with African countries through the participation in international missions of the European Union and the United Nations on the African continent, the accreditation of its Ambassador to participate as an observer in the African Union’s activities, as well as the allocation of development assistance and humanitarian aid.
The Ambassador emphasized the importance of cooperation in the field of culture and education, called for promotion of student exchanges. Burkina Faso’s representative also noted that his country would be particularly interested in inter-parliamentary cooperation, aiming to exchange best practices in legislative processes.
Simplice Honoré Guibila resides in Berlin. He is Burkina Faso’s second Ambassador accredited to Lithuania. The Honorary Consul of Lithuania Doudou Doumbia has served as the representative of Lithuania in Burkina Faso since 2013. The countries established their diplomatic relations on 23 September 1998.
