LITHUANIA’S FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER HIGHLIGHTED THE IMPORTANCE OF THE REGIONAL COOPERATION AMONG THE NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS
During the Baltic Sea NGO Forum in Vilnius on 16 April, Lithuania’s Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė highlighted the importance of cooperation among public institutions in the region. According to the Vice-Minister, the co-operation among NGOs from different countries opens up new possibilities for strengthening the basis for the civil society in the Baltic Sea region.
“I am very encouraged by the agenda and its strategic approach towards regional cooperation. For when it comes to the sustainable development of our region we are all responsible. And let me assure you, that we all feel the impact of the activities of the NGOs in our region on the most important issues of our lives, such as healthy environment, sustainable development, human rights, social inclusion, civil dialogue, cultural diversity, preservation of common heritage, just to mention a few.” Vice-Minister A.Skaisgirytė Liauškienė said.
According to the Vice-Minister, the priorities of the Lithuanian CBSS Presidency include cross-border cooperation, from people-to-people contacts to joint projects, with clean environment and safe living conditions in the Baltic Sea Region on our minds.
The Baltic Sea NGO Forum has been organized annually since 2001 in a country that presides over the Council of the Baltic Sea States. Lithuania holds the Presidency of the Council from July 2009 to June 2010.
