Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister commemorates the memory of the Jewish victims of the massacre in Šeduva
On 30 August, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Mantvydas Bekešius took part in a commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the destruction of the Šeduva Jewish community.
The Kaddish prayer was recited to commemorate the tragic events at the sites of mass murder in the Pakuteniai and Liaudiškiai forests, and in the old Jewish cemetery. The Mass was celebrated in the Šeduva Church of the Discovery of the Holy Cross, followed by a concert of Yiddish songs, which were performed by Rafailas Karpis and Darius Mažintas.
The commemoration was attended by the Prime Minister of Lithuania Algirdas Butkevičius, the Lithuanian Jewish Community Chairwoman Faina Kukliansky, the descendants of the Šeduva Jews from abroad, and representatives of the diplomatic corps residing in Lithuania.
The event was organized by the Šeduva Jewish Memorial Foundation and the Jewish community of Šiauliai. The representatives of the diplomatic corps were invited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.
