Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister calls on India to intensify cooperation with Lithuania

On 10 November in Delhi, Lithuania’s Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Mantvydas Bekešius and Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs of India Navtej Singh Sarna discussed bilateral and international cooperation, and the situation in Ukraine.

Vice-Minister M.Bekešius voiced deep concern over Russia’s actions in Ukraine, that undermine the territorial integrity of Ukraine and threaten the security of the whole region.

On his visit M.Bekešius invited India to more intensively use the opportunities of bilateral relations with Lithuania, to strengthen political and economic cooperation, and refered to the promise made a decade ago to open India’s diplomatic representation in Vilnius.

“Lithuanians have always taken a keen interest in the culture of India and admired it. In a few weeks, the University of Calcutta will confer an honorary doctorate on famous Lithuanian traveller Antanas Poška. We can and must strengthen our economic cooperation, this is in the interest of both nations,” said M.Bekešius.

The Vice-Minister conveyed an invitation from Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius to Sushma Swaraj, External Affairs Minister of India, to visit Lithuania.

Currently, the Ambassador of India to Lithuania resides in Warsaw.
