LITHUANIA’S FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER AND MEXICO’S FOREIGN UNDERSECRETARY HELD A MEETING IN MADRID

Lithuania’s Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Šarūnas Adomavičius, who is taking part in the VI European Union – Latin America and Caribbean Summit of Heads of State and Government in Madrid, Spain, met with Mexico’s Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Lourdes Aranda on 18 May. During the meeting, important issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation were discussed. Vice-Minister Š.Adomavičius invited his Mexican counterpart to come for bilateral political consultations in Vilnius.

On 17 May, during the discussions on partnership perspectives of the European Union, Latin American and Caribbean regions at the European Union, Latin American and Caribbean foreign ministers meeting, Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister highlighted the importance to strengthen democracy.

Vice-Minister Š.Adomavičius called for closer cooperation between the two regions in spreading democratic values around the world and making use of international forums for that purpose, also making use of the Community of Democracies, which is currently chaired by Lithuania.

Vice-Minister Š.Adomavičius is taking part in the VI European Union – Latin America and Caribbean Summit in Spain with the delegation, led by Chancellor of the Prime Minister Deividas Matulionis. Over 60 European Union, Latin American and Caribbean Heads of State and Government assembled in Madrid to discuss ways for the two regions to contribute more effectively to solving global challenges, such as the financial and economic crisis, climate change, also ways to help Haiti.
