Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister and Chief Executive of the European Defence Agency discussed European security

On 17 February in Vilnius, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Mantvydas Bekešius and Jorge Domecq, newly-appointed Chief Executive of the European Defence Agency (EDA), discussed European security and the role of the Agency in addressing hybrid threats that the European Union and its Eastern neighbours are facing.

“Cyber threats have no boundaries,  and we all have to reinforce our capabilities to resist the repeated attacks on the cyber space of Lithuania and other EU member states,” stressed M.Bekešius.

The Vice-Minister called on EDA to establish working relations with Ukraine  which is in need of vital support. M.Bekešius has urged the Agency to develop closer cooperation with the Vilnius-based NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence and has presented Lithuania’s progress in the field of cyber security.

J.Domecq, the former Ambassador Permanent Representative of Spain to the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), took up his new functions in February 2015.
