Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister and Belarusian Deputy Minister discuss EU-Belarus relations in Minsk
On 4 February a delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania headed by Vice-Minister Andrius Krivas and a delegation of Belarus, headed by Elena Kupchina, Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus, held consultations in Minsk. The status quo of the EU- Belarus relations, the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit in Latvia and the situation in the Eastern Europe was reviewed, key bilateral cooperation issues, such as the 2015 meetings and events agenda, economic and cultural cooperation were discussed during the meeting.
A.Krivas welcomed the position of Belarus on reaching peaceful solution of the conflict in eastern Ukraine and efforts to intensify the relations with the EU. Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister called on Belarus to participate more actively in the Eastern Partnership programme and to do their best to improve human rights situation in the country which would lead to further development of the EU-Belarus dialogue.
E.Kupchina assured that Belarus continued to be interested in cooperation with the EU and in participating in the Eastern Partnership programme. Both officials praised the successful cooperation between Lithuania and Belarus in freight transit and stated the importance of expanding cooperation in other fields.
