Lithuania's Foreign Ministry summons the representative of the Russian Embassy, voices a strong protest over the killing of Ukrainian prisoners of war

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania has summoned the representative of the Russian Embassy to Lithuania and expressed a strong protest over the war crimes committed by Russian troops in Ukraine.

One of these war crimes was the shooting of 16 Ukrainian soldiers who had surrendered on 30 September near Pokrovsk. This is a flagrant and blatant violation of Russia's obligations under the Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

The Lithuanian side also condemned Russia's continued aggression against Ukraine and the air strikes against civilian and critical infrastructure facilities in Ukraine, which have reached unprecedented proportions in the last month.

It was noted that the planners and perpetrators of these and other Russian war crimes must know that their identities would be revealed and that they would face imminent legal accountability.

Lithuania reiterates that Russia must immediately cease its military aggression against Ukraine, withdraw its troops from the Ukrainian territory and respect Ukraine's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders.
