Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry summons Belarusian chargé d'affaires over airspace violations

On 22 June, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania summoned the chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of Belarus to Lithuania Lyudmila Tatarinovich and handed her a diplomatic note over the Lithuanian airspace violations by an An-2 civilian aircraft, which entered the airspace from Belarus on 21 June 2017.

According to competent services monitoring the Lithuanian airspace, the An-2 civilian aircraft entered the Lithuanian airspace from Belarus on 21 June 2017, violating the airspace even twice. The first violation occurred in the Dubičiai village in the Varėna district, while the second one happened near the Musteika village in the Varėna district. Later, the An-2 civilian aircraft returned to the Belarusian airspace.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania requested Belarus to immediately provide an explanation of the above-mentioned incidents and urged to take all necessary measures to prevent such incidents from happening again in the future.
