Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry calls on the international community, partners and media to clearly name Russia as an aggressor
24 February marks one year since Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The Foreign Ministry posted its video “Words Matter” on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, calling international media, organisations and experts to use the correct terms regarding Russia’s brutal war AGAINST Ukraine.
“Unfortunately, we still often see, hear, and read terms such as the war in Ukraine, Ukraine war, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, etc., which create a false narrative about the causes and origins of Russia’s war against Ukraine. We call on the international community to choose the right terms reflecting the accountability of the true aggressor — Russia,” notes the Foreign Ministry’s StratCom.
Lithuanian diplomatic representations have already called for clearly naming Russia as an aggressor in Italian, Arabic, Spanish and Portuguese. They have also disseminated relevant material in German and French.
In addition, the Foreign Ministry’s StratCom has released a video, “The Year of Russia’s Failures” on Facebook, as well as Twitter and Linkedin on the geopolitical, economic, and military losses suffered by Russia, as well as its loss of influence in the international community and other failures.
“Russian propaganda channels say that sanctions against Russia are not working. However, Russia’s budget deficit has surged; over 1,000 Western companies have curtailed their operations in or withdrawn from Russia. Moreover, international cultural and sports organisations are hitting back at the aggressor,” says the Foreign Ministry’s StratCom.
