LITHUANIA’S FOREIGN MINISTER WELCOMED RESULTS OF THE IRISH REFERENDUM
On 3 October, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vygaudas Ušackas had a telephone conversation with Irish Foreign Minister Micheál Martin and congratulated him on the victory during the referendum on the European Union’s Treaty of Lisbon.
“Ireland’s convincing ‘Yes’ to the Treaty of Lisbon will strengthen hopes of the European people to live in an effective and united Europe based on solidarity principles,” said Minister V.Ušackas.
According to the head of Lithuania’s diplomacy, the success in the referendum has helped Europe to avoid a political deadlock, which would be especially undesirable now, as the EU jointly and every member state individually seek to overcome financial and economic challenges and to return to the track of economic growth
