LITHUANIA’S FOREIGN MINISTER V.UŠACKAS MET WITH HEAD OF THE ADMINISTRATION OF RUSSIA’S PRESIDENT

On 9 July, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vygaudas Ušackas took part in an award ceremony at the Russian Embassy in Lithuania, during which Donatas Banionis and Saulius Sondeckis were awarded for their merits to the Lithuanian and Russian cultures. Russia’s state awards were presented by Sergey Naryshkin, the head of the Administration of the President of Russia.

After the event, Minister V.Ušackas met with head of the Administration of the President of Russia S.Naryshkin and discussed bilateral relations.

“Lithuania is interested in the development of constructive relations with Russia that would be based on mutual respect. Lithuania and Russia have to evolve a dialogue, despite the issues, which both countries assess differently,” said Minister V.Ušackas.

During the meeting, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs V.Ušackas expressed regret that the United Nations Observer Mission in Georgia and the OSCE Mission to Georgia had to interrupt their activities.

S.Naryshkin conveyed felicitations from President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev to Dalia Grybauskaitė, the President-elect of Lithuania.

Minister V.Ušackas drew S.Naryshkin’s attention to the fact that during the nineteen years of its independence Lithuania has not yet received a highest ranking guest from Russia, while Lithuania’s President Valdas Adamkus and President Algirdas Brazauskas had both paid visits to Moscow. Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs V.Ušackas expressed belief that in the nearest future the President of Russia would pay a visit to Lithuania.
