Lithuania’s Foreign Minister thanks the outgoing Vietnamese Ambassador for his efforts to foster bilateral relations

On 19 January, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the outgoing Ambassador of Vietnam to Lithuania Pham Kien Thiet. Lithuania’s Foreign Minister thanked the Vietnamese Ambassador for his efforts to strengthen the relationship between the countries and stressed that the bilateral ties were intensifying.

In the meeting, the officials discussed the harmonization process of bilateral treaties. Lithuania expressed a wish to conclude negotiations of the readmission agreement, the agreement on the abolition of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports and the double taxation agreement, as well as to open negotiations on the economic cooperation agreement.

The head of Lithuania’s diplomacy said that the economic relationship had a lot of untapped potential and noted that it would be worthwhile for the countries to send business missions and participate in trade fairs.

In 2016, Lithuania appointed its Honorary Consul in Hanoi. The Ambassador of Lithuania in Beijing Ina Marčiulionytė is accredited to Vietnam. During the Ministerial Meeting of the European Union and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (EU-ASEAN) in October 2016 in Bangkok, Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister Neris Germanas met with the Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung.

The Vietnamese Ambassador to Lithuania Pham Kien Thiet, who resides in Warsaw, was accredited to Lithuania in April 2014.
