Lithuania’s Foreign Minister thanks freedom fighter from Ukraine
On 14 January, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius presented an honourable mention and a token to Ukrainian citizen Ievgen Dykiy, who led the Ukrainian squad at the Seimas (Parliament) of the Republic of Lithuania in January 1991.
“In 1991, in Vilnius you defended the freedom of Lithuania. Today, Lithuania is active on various fronts, defending Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity. I hope that your efforts were not in vain and that your dreams about to have a free, democratic and sovereign state that can make its own decisions will be fulfilled in the near future. Lithuania’s support of the people of Ukraine in a symbolic way is our tribute to Ukraine in gratitude for supporting us on the path of independence. Today, we once again remember the unifying slogan – “For your freedom and ours”, said L.Linkevičius.
I.Dykiy and Ukrainian Ambassador Valery Zhovtenko, who participated in the ceremony, thanked Lithuania for its assistance to Ukraine. “Lithuania’s support for Ukraine, which is currently defending her freedom and the freedom of Europe, means a lot to us. Lithuania is very visible in Ukraine and our people feel sincere gratitude to Lithuanians,” said I. Dykiy.
I.Dykiy is attending the events of the Day of the Defenders of Freedom. On 12 January, he delivered a speech at the Seimas (Parliament) of Lithuania. He gave a lecture titled “Russia’s hybrid war waged against Ukraine: a warning to the Baltic States” at the Military Academy of Lithuania on 13 January.
