LITHUANIA’S FOREIGN MINISTER RECEIVES THE NEW AMBASSADOR OF CHINA

On 28 January, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vygaudas Ušackas received new Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Lithuania Mingtao Tong. Head of the Lithuanian diplomacy was glad about particularly good bilateral relations and active cooperation in multilateral formats, indicated that Lithuania continued to seek to deepen a political dialogue with China, to promote trade and investment, to develop the exchange in the areas of tourism, culture, sports, education and science.

“We are interested in developing very good relations with the most populous country in the world and world’s third largest economy,” said V. Ušackas.

Minister V.Ušackas also invited the Chinese business to discover Lithuania as a beneficial country for business transit to the European Union market.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs thanked the Ambassador for the support of the Chinese Government to organise the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) of Transport Ministers on 19-20 October 2009in Vilnius.

Minister V.Ušackas and Ambassador M.Tong agreed also to prepare the Lithuania-China business forum together during this transport conference.

Head of the Lithuania diplomacy was also glad that during the Meeting of Transport Ministers (ASEM) on 19 October in Vilnius, the Asia-Europe transport development forum will take place.

ASEM – is a dialogue process, which unites all the European Union and 17 Asian countries. At the initiative of the countries that are taking part in the process, concrete cooperation projects of Europe and Asia are being implemented in the areas of policy, economy and socio-culture.

Through the Ambassador of China, V.Ušackas conveyed an invitation to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China to visit Lithuania.

Lithuania established diplomatic relations with China on 14 September 1921, and re-established them on 14 September 1991. The Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Vilnius was opened in 1992 in Vilnius.
