LITHUANIA’S FOREIGN MINISTER RECEIVES THE FIRST AMBASSADOR OF THE SULTANATE OF OMAN TO LITHUANIA
On 19 June, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis received Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Lithuania Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Zahir al Hinai, who is visiting Vilnius. The Minister welcomed Oman’s decision to appoint an ambassador to Lithuania. Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Zahir al Hinai is Oman’s first Ambassador to Lithuania.
Head of Lithuania’s diplomacy asked the Ambassador to convey the message to Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi that he was still expected in Lithuania. The visit of the Secretary-General to Lithuania was postponed due to volcanic dust cloud in Europe in April.
This year, first Honorary Consul of Lithuania Anees Issa al Zadjali was appointed in Oman. According to Minister A.Ažubalis, this should strengthen bilateral political and economic relations. The Minister also expressed trust that Oman would open the country’s representation in Lithuania at an early date.
At the meeting, the Minister and Ambassador discussed the visit of Oman’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah to Lithuania, which is scheduled for 2011.
Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Zahir al Hinai resides in London, he came to Lithuania to present his credentials to the country’s President Dalia Grybauskaitė.
Lithuania and Oman established diplomatic relations on 22 September 1992.
