LITHUANIA’S FOREIGN MINISTER RECEIVED THE NEW CZECH AMBASSADOR TO LITHUANIA
On 18 March, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis received Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Lithuania Radek Pech, who assumed office this year. During the meeting, Minister A.Ažubalis and Ambassador R.Pech discussed important issues on the European Union and bilateral agendas.
The Minister expressed satisfaction with an active cooperation between Lithuania and the Czech Republic. Important issues of ensuring energy security, the EU Eastern Partnership and the evaluation of totalitarian regimes at the EU level were also discussed.
Minister A.Ažubalis stressed the importance of further maintaining close regional cooperation when discussing important issues of the implementation of the EU’s institutional reform, and expressed trust that the Visegrad Group countries and the Baltic States would continue to actively develop their cooperation.
The Minister thanked R.Pech for the participation of the Czech Air Force in the NATO Air Policing mission at Zokniai Airport, and expressed trust that the Czech Republic would repeat this mission in the future.
Head of Lithuania’s diplomacy underlined that close political and economic relations were especially important when coping with consequences of the economic downturn.
In 2009, Lithuania’s trade turnover with the Czech Republic totalled 1110.8 million Litas. Lithuania’s trade balance with the Czech Republic was negative and amounted to 679.5 million Litas. Lithuania’s exports to the Czech Republic amounted to 280.9 million Litas and imports reached 829.9 million Litas.
