Lithuania’s Foreign Minister pays tribute to Hiroshima victims
On 7 May, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius visited the Hiroshima Peace Memorial, where he paid tribute to victims of the Hiroshima atomic bombing.
Lithuania’s Foreign Minister met with the atomic bomb survivor Keiko Ogura, who was eight years old when the atomic bomb flattened Hiroshima.
She told Linkevičius about many difficulties experienced by survivors of the Hiroshima atomic bombing and called on world leaders to make every effort to ensure that this tragedy would not happen again. Linkevičius noted that Lithuania, as the nation that had survived the horrors of many wars, was well aware of the suffering caused by war and supported the efforts of Japan, and of other countries, to seek for peace in the world.
Lithuania’s Foreign Minister also laid a floral wreath at the memorial for the victims of the atomic bombing.
On the occasion of the Lithuanian Foreign Minister’s visit on 7 May, the Lithuanian national tricolour flag was hoisted in the central square of Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park.
