Lithuania’s Foreign Minister meets with the U.S. Ambassador

On 14 February, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the Ambassador of the United States of America to Lithuania Anne Hall. In the meeting, the interlocutors discussed topical issues of bilateral relations between Lithuania and the U.S., the regional and international security and defence policy, the situation in Ukraine, forthcoming bilateral meetings and visits, preparations for the Munich Security Conference and meetings organized on the margins.

Lithuania’s Foreign Minister shared his impressions from the visit to Ukraine the last week and his visit to the towns of Kramatorsk and Avdiivka in eastern Ukraine, where local residents were affected by military actions.

In the meeting, Linkevičius emphasized Lithuania’s determination to continue its close cooperation with the U.S. in the fight against regional and global threats. Lithuania’s Foreign Minister underlined Lithuania’s commitments to strengthen its national defence capabilities and the country’s resilience to threats, and to continue to take part with the U.S. in the global coalition to counter ISIL. The officials discussed joint efforts in the run-up to important NATO summit meetings and ministerial meetings, as well as efforts to strengthen the North Atlantic Alliance, emphasizing the unity and the importance of the transatlantic link.

Lithuania’s Foreign Minister thanked the U.S. Ambassador for conveying the congratulations of the U.S. President Donald Trump to our people on the occasion of the celebration of the Day of Restoration of the State of Lithuania. Linkevičius also welcomed the strong, long-term partnership between Lithuania and the U.S., an intensive agenda for bilateral relations, an abundance of visits and events, and expressed his expectation that the two countries could further strengthen their mutually beneficial relationship through bilateral collaboration.

The U.S. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Anne Hall is the fourteenth Ambassador of the United States to Lithuania since the establishment of diplomatic relations on 28 July 1922. Hall has worked in Lithuania before. She served as Deputy Chief of Mission in Lithuania from 2010 to 2013. Later, Hall has served as Chargé d' Affaires.
