Lithuania’s Foreign Minister meets with the new Latvian Ambassador
On 10 September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Minister of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the new Ambassador of Latvia Einars Semanis. The officials discussed the bilateral relationship between Lithuania and Latvia, laying special emphasis on cultural ties and the creation of a common information space.
Semanis, who is starting his service as Latvia’s Ambassador, underlined the importance of a very close cooperation in the fields of security and defence, energy and transport, as well as foreign policy coordination for further development of relations between Lithuania and Latvia.
As regards energy cooperation, the Foreign Minister Linkevičius pointed out that the implementation of the European Union’s Third Energy Package would allow for the use of possibilities of the Klaipėda liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal and the Inčukalns underground gas storage facility in Latvia when liberalising the Baltic gas markets.
