Lithuania’s Foreign Minister meets with the Australian Ambassador

On 30 November, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the Ambassador of Australia Paul Wojciechowski.

Lithuania’s Foreign Minister recalled his visit to Australia in March 2015 and said that the Lithuanian community in Australia was very important for the bilateral relationship. The Lithuanian diplomat stressed the need to foster ties between Australia and Lithuania, firstly, by increasing people-to-people connections. The officials discussed the possibility of signing agreements on social security and working holiday programs.

The Australian Ambassador welcomed the excellent relations with Lithuania and emphasized the need to further deepen cooperation, promote business and people-to-people contacts.

The meeting also discussed the Australia-EU cooperation, how a Brexit could impact on Australia’s relations with the EU, important regional issues.

The Ambassador Wojciechowski is the ninth Ambassador of Australia to Lithuania, who resides in Warsaw. Australia’s Ambassador presented his letters of credence to the President of Lithuania in June 2016.

Australia officially recognized Lithuania on 27 August 1991. The countries established their diplomatic relations on 6 November 1991.
