Lithuania’s Foreign Minister meets with Russian opposition activist, Vice-Chairman of Open Russia movement Vladimir Kara-Murza
At the Embassy of Lithuania on 28 March in Washington, D.C., the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the Russian opposition activist Vladimir Kara-Murza, who is the Vice-Chairman of Open Russia movement and is now receiving a treatment in the U.S.A. after a suspected poisoning in Moscow on 2 February.
Kara-Murza thanked the Lithuania's Foreign Minister for supporting him personally and the democratic process in Russia. The opposition activist said he was getting better and had plans to return to Russia, because he had to finish the important work that he had begun there.
The warm meeting focused on recent events in Russia, propaganda, efforts to counter it and the Vilnius Russia Forum, which is to be held on 8-9 May.
Linkevičius invited Kara-Murza to come to Vilnius in May to take part in the Russia Forum and shared his insights into the security situation, challenges related to energy security and cybersecurity in the region.
Kara-Murza welcomed Lithuania’s efforts and leadership in supporting democratic processes in the region. According to Kara-Murza, who will testify before a Senate committee tomorrow, it is important to give civil society in Russia access to true information and acquaint its Western partners with Russia’s real internal situation.
