Lithuania’s Foreign Minister meets with representative of Ukrainian Presidential Administration, assures him of Lithuania’s further support for Ukraine
On 4 November in Vilnius, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius and the Deputy Head of the Ukrainian Presidential Administration Kostantin Yeliseyev discussed the implementation of the Minsk agreements, the Normandy Four talks, and key aspects of the EU-Ukraine relations.
Lithuania’s Foreign Minister reiterated that Lithuania would continue to strongly support Ukraine both in its fight against external aggressors and the implementation of all the necessary reforms.
Linkevičius noted that when seeking to implement the Minsk agreements, firstly, the truce in Donbass must be secured, and only then other political steps could be taken, as provided in the accords.
“We do not wish the “election” held at gunpoint in eastern Ukraine. We must be consistent and firmly say that democracy and armed aggression are not compatible. First of all, shots must be silenced. Peace will prevail and only then can we speak about political aspects,” said Lithuania’s Foreign Minister.
Linkevičius and Yeliseyev also discussed what was expected of the forthcoming EU-Ukraine summit in Brussels on 24 November.
Yeliseyev is responsible for peace talks, the EU-Ukraine relations, and Ukraine’s foreign policy issues in the Presidential Administration. Yeliseyev’s visit to Lithuania is dedicated to preparations for the 9th meeting of the Council of the Presidents of Lithuania and Ukraine, which will be held in Kyiv in December.
