Lithuania’s Foreign Minister meets with President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace of the Holy See

On 15 September in Vilnius, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the Cardinal Peter Turkson, President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, to discuss prospects for cooperation between Lithuania and the Holy See, refugee integration issues, humanitarian situations worldwide, migration, military conflict, and the countries’ efforts to resolve conflicts in eastern Ukraine and in the Middle East peacefully.

“As this year marks the 25th anniversary of the relations between Lithuania and the Holy See, we commemorate and thank you for the support of the Holy See for our country’s goal of democracy and aspirations for independence, as well as the non-recognition of Lithuania’s occupation,” said Linkevičius.

Cardinal Turkson took part in the International Conference on “Europe Whole, Free and at Peace –2040” that was held in Vilnius on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of international recognition of Lithuania’s restored statehood and membership of the United Nations.
