Lithuania’s Foreign Minister meets with his Chilean and Palestinian counterparts in New York

On 24 September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the Chilean and Palestinian Foreign Ministers on the margins of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

In the bilateral meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chile Teodoro Ribera, the Foreign Ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of a mechanism for bilateral consultations. This step will make a significant contribution to the strengthening of bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries. The permanent consultation mechanism will help to effectively address bilateral issues, as well as to cooperate more closely within international organizations. Chile is Lithuania's third largest trading partner in Latin America.

L. Linkevičius also met with the Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad-al-Maliki and discussed bilateral relations between Lithuania and Palestine, and Lithuania's growing contribution to the provision of bilateral assistance and humanitarian aid. Lithuania contributed to the implementation of 10 bilateral development cooperation projects in Palestine in 2009-2019. On 4 September, the first EU Twinning project was launched together with the Customs Department under the Ministry of Finance of Lithuania and the State Border Guard Service.
