Lithuania’s Foreign Minister meets with Czech and Dutch Ambassadors to discuss bilateral relations, security cooperation

On 12 November, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the new Ambassador of the Netherlands Gijsbert Hendrik Christiaan van der Lingen and the new Czech Ambassador Bohumil Mazánek. The meetings discussed bilateral cooperation, regional security issues and economic ties.

The meeting with the Ambassador of the Netherlands focused on possibilities to strengthen economic ties, especially in the fields of transport and energy, exploiting the capacities of the new liquefied natural gas terminal in Klaipėda.

Minister Linkevičius appreciated the participation of the Netherlands in NATO’s Air Policing mission in the Baltic States. The meeting also discussed the investigation into the crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight in east of Ukraine.

The meeting with the new Ambassador of the Czech Republic focused on the prospects for regional cooperation between the Baltic and Visegrad countries, partnership in multilateral fora.

The Minister underlined that Lithuania and the Czech Republic were close partners in the EU and NATO. He noted Lithuania‘s  appreciation for the Czech Republics participation in NATO’s Air Policing mission in the Baltic States. B.Mazánek promised to continue the cooperation between the Czech Republic and Lithuania in the fields of security and defence.

L.Linkevičius also highlighted the consistent growth of bilateral trade between Lithuania and the Czech Republic, which the countries would step up.

Ambassador Bohumil Mazánek presented his letters of credence to President Dalia Grybauskaitė on 1 October 2014; Ambassador Gijsbert Hendrik Christiaan van der Lingen presented his letters of credence on 9 September.
