LITHUANIA’S FOREIGN MINISTER MEETS THE EUROPEAN COMMISSIONER FOR ENLARGEMENT

7On 26 January in Brussels during a meeting with European Commissioner for Enlargement Olli Rehn, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vygaudas Ušackas discussed perspectives of the EU enlargement.

“According to public opinion polls, Lithuania is among the EU member states that most firmly support further EU enlargement ,” said Minister V.Ušackas.

During the meeting, challenges of the EU enlargement for 2009 and current EU accession negotiations with Turkey and Croatia were discussed. The Commissioner informed about preparations of the Western Balkan countries to the EU membership and plans of these countries regarding the applications for the status of the EU candidate countries.

Minister V.Ušackas invited O.Rehn to visit Lithuania.
