Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Linkevičius congratulates on Chile’s Independence Day

On 18 September, the Minister Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius congratulated the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chile Herald Muñoz on the occasion of Chile’s Day of Independence and welcomed the intensifying bilateral ties.

The head of Lithuania’s diplomacy noted that our bilateral cooperation had been strengthened by the President Dalia Grybauskaitė’s visit to Chile in February 2015. It has also opened up new possibilities for political and economic ties between Lithuania and Chile.

Chile is Lithuania’s third largest trading partner in Latin America.

The Friendship Agreement was signed between Chile and Lithuania in 1935. Chile recognized Lithuania’s independence on 28 August 1991. On 5 December this year, Lithuania and Chile will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations. Lithuania’s Honorary Consul General in Chile has been José Felizardo Barrueco since 2003. The Chilean Embassy accredited to Lithuania is in Warsaw.
