Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Landsbergis: “With Finland’s accession, we have acquired a partner capable of overcoming imperialist Russia”

Today, on 4 April, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis is attending a meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Brussels, Belgium.

Arrival and doorstep statement of Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs ahead of the meeting in English.

“From today, 31 member countries will discuss the future of NATO and Europe’s security architecture. With the accession of Finland, we have acquired a partner capable of overcoming imperialist Russia.  <...> Ukraine’s application letter is on the table, and we must find a way to bring it closer to NATO so that it can become a member when the time is right,” Landsbergis said ahead of the meeting.

When speaking about NATO’s upcoming summit in Vilnius, the head of Lithuania’s diplomacy recalled the need to reinforce the Alliance’s eastern flank, respect commitments to Ukraine and seek the swiftest possible accession of Sweden to the organization.

It will be the first meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs with the participation of Finland as the Alliance’s 31st member nation.
