Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Landsbergis: “We need to finally go ahead with the Belarusian sanctions package”
Today, on 22 May, the Foreign Affairs Council is held in Brussels with the participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis.
“Today, with EU ministers, we need to agree on military assistance to Ukraine. We cannot delay the 11th sanctions package against Russia and the Belarusian sanctions. For almost six months, we have not adopted any Belarusian sanctions package because, together with the sanctions package, there is a request made by several member states to remove part of the sanctions on Belaruskali and Belarusian potash company. I think it is unacceptable to have these two things connected. I will be asking today to separate the two issues and go ahead with the Belarusian sanctions package if we are seriously supporting the Belarusian opposition and more than 1,500 political prisoners,” the head of Lithuania’s diplomacy said ahead of the Council meeting.
