Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Landsbergis: “We are looking forward to a decision on the EU’s enlargement – with authoritarian regimes trying to strengthen their positions, neither Moldova nor Ukraine can stay on the sidelines of history”
Today, on 11 December, the head of Lithuania’s diplomacy Gabrielius Landsbergis met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Moldova Nicu Popescu.
“We are looking forward to a decision on EU enlargement – with authoritarian regimes trying to strengthen their positions – neither Moldova nor Ukraine can remain on the sidelines of history,” Landsbergis said ahead of the Eastern Partnership (EaP) ministerial meeting.
The meeting of the European Council will take place on 14 and 15 December, during which EU leaders will address continued EU support for Ukraine and its people, the multiannual financial framework and the enlargement of the EU.
“The political decision on the EU’s enlargement cannot be held hostage to blackmail or manipulation. Lithuania continues to strongly support the European integration of Moldova and other Eastern Partnership countries ready for accession,” the head of Lithuania’s diplomacy said.
