Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Landsbergis: “We appreciate sustainable investments of the Netherlands in Lithuania’s economy and contribution to our security”
On 12 June, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis paid a working visit to the Netherlands.
The head of Lithuania’s diplomacy met with the Deputy Prime Minister of the Netherlands and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wopke Hoekstra.
“We appreciate sustainable investments of the Netherlands in Lithuania’s economy. We are also grateful for the Netherlands’ active contribution to our security – the continuous deployment of troops to the Alliance’s enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) Battle Group in Lithuania and the participation in the air policing mission,” Landsbergis noted at a meeting with his Dutch counterpart.
“As the NATO summit in Vilnius is approaching, it is important to hear the expectations of our closest EU and NATO partners and discuss common measures to strengthen the Alliance,” the Foreign Minister said.
The heads of the Lithuanian and Dutch diplomacy also discussed the need to continue supporting Ukraine and take measures to ensure Russia’s accountability for war crimes against Ukraine. As regards the European Union, ministers discussed the need to strengthen the EU’s resilience to China’s economic coercion.
The Netherlands, our NATO partner, has deployed its troops in Lithuania since 2017 and regularly participated in the air policing mission.
The Netherlands is Lithuania’s 6th trading partner and 4th partner in foreign investment. Trade with the Netherlands grew by 28 % and reached EUR 4.8 billion in 2022, while exports to the Netherlands increased by 38 % to EUR 2.4 billion.
